A story that continues
Hosts with heart
Where guests now enjoy the tranquillity of the lake, everything once began with hard work in the forest. In the late 19th century, Johann Walz founded a sawmill here - a time when life in the Black Forest was full of hardship. But the family persevered until Karl Walz had a new idea in the 1920s: He and his wife Frida, an experienced cook, transformed the place into a small guesthouse with a café. In 1925, the house opened its doors - and instead of timber, hospitality became the main focus here.
With a purpose-built outdoor pool nearby, a boat rental on the lake and the popular restaurant, the family business continued to grow. And when the next generation took over, the guesthouse became a hotel - with the lake always at its heart. Today, in the fourth generation, the family continues the story: Rooted in tradition, with an eye to the future.

For 100 years now, our hotel has been a place of relaxation, hospitality, and Black Forest warmth—and it has been family-owned from the very beginning. Today, the fourth generation, Christoph and Deborah Kaltenbach, run the hotel with great attention to detail and a clear focus on what matters most: the well-being of our guests.
